Thelma Irene (Parr) Moake

Thelma Irene Parr Moake, age 88 years, a resident of Cypress, Illinois, passed away Wednesday evening, January 12, 2022, at 11:50 PM at her home.

Thelma was born September 11, 1933 in Cypress, Illinois.  She was the youngest of ten children born to Lionel and Mary (Turner) Parr.

On April 15, 1954, Thelma was united in marriage to Shirley Lee Moake at the Cypress Baptist Church.  He preceded her in death on April 23, 2013.

Thelma is survived by: her children – Rhonda Elkins of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, Trina (Mark) Kressley of Richardson, Texas, and Scott Moake of Cypress; a grandson – Travis Greer of Paducah, Kentucky; 3 great grandchildren – Joslyn, Trevor and Dowl; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her siblings: Lt. Colonel Chris (Pat) Parr, Wayne (Ruby) Parr, Luke (Kedron) Parr, Delbert (Dot) Parr, L.J. (Bessie) Parr, Ray (Shirley) Parr, Mildred (Alfred) Hinkle, Lela (Don) Templeton, and Nadine (Leon) Cooley. 

Thelma was a 1951 graduate of Vienna High School.  She had been employed as a cutter by Florsheim Shoe Company at their former manufacturing facility in Anna.  Thelma also worked for 19 years as a bus driver for the Cypress Grade School.

Thelma was the eldest member of the Cypress Baptist Church.  She had been a church member for over 80 years.

In her spare time, Thelma enjoyed collecting, fishing and hunting.

A service honoring the life of Thelma Moake was conducted Monday afternoon, January 17, 2022, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor La Rue Parr and Pastor Gary O’Neal officiated.  Burial was in the Cypress Cemetery.
