Last month, Shawnee Worship Center in Vienna partnered with Molina Healthcare to donate hundreds of bags of food to local families.
Just before Thanksgiving, around a dozen volunteers worked to hand out 400 bags of food. Each tote contained enough food for several meals. The process was contactless, with each car driving up and receiving one prepared bag.
While there have been several pandemic relief food distributions from various organizations this year, it has proven to be a challenge getting the word out. At the front of the line, representatives from Molina Healthcare took down names and email addresses to contact families for future donation events.
According to Pastor Casey Pollard, Shawnee Worship Center is looking to hold similar events in the future. Pollard said that the church is converting an adjacent building to a food pantry and working with Tri-State Food Bank to continue to provide food to needy families in Johnson County and beyond.
