Ronald G. Hancock, age 69 years, a resident of Goreville, passed away Wednesday morning, December 2, 2020, at 8:10 AM at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.
Ronald was born August 21, 1951 in Marked Tree, Arkansas. He was the third of ten children born to Jack and Mary (Carter) Hancock.
On April 21, 2005, Ronald was united in marriage to Janis Etheridge in Paducah, Kentucky. She survives.
Other survivors include: his mother – Mary Merriman of Goreville; a daughter – Aleesha Hancock of Mayfield, Kentucky; 2 sons – Jacob Hancock of Goreville and Kagen (C.J.) Hancock of Tunnel Hill; 12 grandchildren – R.J. Hancock, Journey Hancock, Alex Hancock, Ashley Hancock, Courtney Hancock, Logan Hancock, Daniel Hancock, Owen Hancock, Mason Hancock, Bentley Burgandine, McKenzie Atkinson, and Raelyn Mawdsley; 2 great grandchildren – Bradon and Octavia Hancock; his siblings – James Lee Hancock of Paducah, David (Donna) Hancock of Marion, Danny Joe (Lois) Hancock of Goreville, Rob (Connie) Hancock of Goreville, Bill (Helen) Hancock of Goreville, Sherry Hancock of Paducah, Kentucky, Cathy (Todd) Skogely of Highland, Stacy Stevens of Goreville, and Tracy (Bob) Gum of West Frankfort; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his father, Ronald was preceded in death by: 2 sons – Wade Hancock and Grady Hancock; and a grandson – Draven Lee Hancock.
Ronald had worked as a construction laborer on several area projects, including the construction of Interstate 24. He had also worked as a truck driver for a local oil company and as an assembler at General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.
Ronald was a member of the Goreville Pentecostal Church. He made many friends through his love of ham radio. His call sign was KC9MIH.
A graveside service honoring the life of Ronald Hancock will be conducted Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2020, at 2 PM at Cana Cemetery, IL Route 37 North, Goreville, Illinois. Pastor R.G. Null will officiate. Interment will follow.
A visitation will be held Saturday afternoon from 1:30 PM – 2 PM at the cemetery.
Those attending the service are reminded that customarily accepted social distancing guidelines are to be observed. The wearing of a face mask or covering is strongly encouraged. Additionally, you are invited to bring a lawn chair, should you so desire.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
