James Mitchell Greer

James Mitchell (Jimmy) Greer, 73, of Belknap passed away at 7:12 a.m.
Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at his son’s home in Paducah, Kentucky, with his family by his side.

James was born May 11, 1947 in Belknap, Illinois.  He was a graduate of Vienna High School.  James and Peggy Manley Greer were united in marriage in 1971. James served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer in Germany.  James had retired from construction from the Olmsted Lock and Dam.  He had previously worked at the Portland Cement Plant in Joppa and had also been a guard at the Shawnee Correctional Center in Vienna.  James was an avid hunter, he enjoyed hunting shed horns, and Indian rocks.  James loved spending time with his family.  

He is survived by his wife,  Peggy Manley Greer of Belknap; five sons, James (Jamie) and wife, Robin  Greer of Paducah, Kentucky, Jeremy Greer of Golconda, Jared Greer of Belknap, Justin Greer of Belknap and Jerimiah Greer of Belknap; three grandchildren, Wesley James Greer of Kansas City, Kansas, Wyatt David Greer of Goreville, Jude Greer of New Jersey;  two brothers, Larry and Roger Greer of Belknap;  sister, Mary Ann Evetts of Grantsburg. 

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Wesley and Vera Story Greer.

Public graveside services honoring the life of Mr. James Mitchell (Jimmy) Greer will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2020 at the Masonic Cemetery in Belknap.  Rev. Junior Oliver will officiate.  Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army National Guard Burial Detail Team and the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post #5222 in Vienna.   There will be a private family viewing from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday morning at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.

Please remember that customarily accepted social distancing guidelines are to be observed.  The wearing of a face mask is required at the funeral home and strongly recommended at the cemetery.
