Audrey Lois Canupp, age 94, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Union County Hospital Long Term Care, with her daughter by her side. Mrs. Canupp was born in Johnson County, IL on August 15, 1926 to Bluford and Nonnie (Mathis) Allbritten. On October 15, 1953 she eloped and married Harold “Dean” Canupp in Corinth, Mississippi, enjoying 46 years of marriage until his passing in 1999.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Betty and Bo Utley of Anna, Illinois and grandchildren Kelly (Patrick) Kelley of Toledo, Ohio, and Kacey (Mark) Chamness of Anna, Illinois and dearly loved great-grandchildren Carson, Klaira, and Karlee Jo Chamness, as well as brother in-law Dale “Pete” (Retha) Burnam and numerous cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and step mother Inez Allbritten, sister Norma Jean Panuce and brothers, Olen, George (Reba Ferne), and Gerald “Cap” Allbritten, brothers in-law – Ralph (Lenora) Canupp, Robert (Jessalyn) Canupp, 3 sisters in-law – Patty Burnam, Mildred Allbritten, and Rosemary Allbritten and her dear friend James “Jim” Whitnel, as well as many other friends and family members.
Mrs. Canupp was a member of the Cypress Eastern Star Chapter # 886, which was later merged with the Egyptian Chapter # 32 at Vienna, and was a dual member of Anna Star chapter # 522. She was elected Worthy Matron “many times” and was an honorary member of Lily Valley Chapter # 85 in Metropolis and Banner Chapter # 614 in Ganntown.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cypress. In the 1950’s, Audrey worked at Williams Varity Store, also known as “The Dime Store” in Vienna. She spent many years washing and ironing for Green Implement in Cypress, and was a 4-H leader and Avon representative. She enjoyed babysitting, going on Virginia Gray’s bus tours with her husband, embroidering, making homemade ice cream, reading, gardening, and attending railroad company picnics.
In 2001, Mrs Canupp moved to Anna-Jonesboro to be closer to family, where she enjoyed being a greeter at the Jonesboro Grade School and a volunteer at the Union County Hospital Gift Shop. She loved being a member of the Senior Circle and had many great adventures on bus tours with her friends. Miss Audrey also became a beloved friend of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna.
She will forever be remembered for her endless love towards her family and her big bright smile.
As a two time breast cancer survivor, she has asked that memorials be made out to the Heather Harper Treat Foundation, which has provided support to 895 cancer patients since its inception in 1994, her husband being one of the recipients.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, October 1, 2020, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor David Fischler will officiate.
Burial will be in the Cypress Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted Wednesday, September 30, 2020, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.
