Rev. Noel Gene Loyd

Rev. Noel Gene Loyd passed away on March 22, 2020 at 9:40 at his home in Vienna, IL; surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and loving friends by his side. He was born on September 24, 1927 in Cambria, IL to Noble and Margaret (Manning) Loyd. He married Betty Bailey on August 13, 1948 in Murphysboro, IL.  Noel & Betty were married 71 years; 7 months.

He is survived by his wife Betty and four children: Gary & Trecie Loyd; Vienna, IL; Barb & Bob Stoedter;  Springfield, IL; Linda &  Charlie Gilpin: Dallas City, IL; and Tom & Gerry Loyd; Vienna, IL.

Grandchildren: Travis & Amanda; Bart & Tracy; Angela & John; Bob & Becky; Jessica & Chad; and Josh.

Great Grandchildren: Kayla and Grant; Kyle and Kenna; Ashton; Hannah;  JT; Amy; Mackenzie; Katelyn; Kara Beth; Robby; Brooklyn; and Lucas.

Great-great-grandchildren: Parker; and grandson to be here in July.

One sister:   Melody and Kevin Reed.  He was preceded in death by his parents Noble & Margaret Loyd; and Six brothers:   Jetty; Tommy; Jair; Jimmy; Eddie; Johnny;  and one sister: Rosie.

Noel was a licensed ordained minister in the United Pentecostal Church International for 62 years. Pastored churches in Colp, IL; Ozark, IL; and Royalton, IL. Noel maintained the IL District United Pentecostal Church Campground in Wapella, IL for 10 years. He was employed in the maintenance department of Allen’s Industrial for 18 years in Herrin, IL. He was known by those who loved him most as “Grandpa”.  He could always be found in the middle of one of his many projects:   whether that be building furniture for grandchildren;  building a church where there was none before; or remodeling his home time and time again. In the last year of his life, he studied and created a Bible study of the 70 weeks of Daniel. In the last few years of his life, he ended every family gathering with his children or grandchildren by saying, “The most important thing that you can do in your life is live for God; there is no greater purpose.”

A private graveside service will be held with interment to follow in the Blairsville Cemetery, north of Cambria.

A public celebration of the life of Rev. Noel Gene Loyd will be held at a later date which will be announced.
