Billy C. Cheek, age 63 years, a resident of rural Cobden and a former resident of Vienna, passed away Monday morning, January 13, 2020, at 6:30 a.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
Billy was born September 25, 1956 in Marion, Illinois. He was the son of James Lloyd Cheek and Pauline (Riley) Cheek.
Billy was united in marriage to Barbara (Waters) at the Vienna City Park in 2002. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Billy is survived by: his children – Shekinah Cheek of Vienna, Melissa Kay Wentworth of Paducah, and Kris Thomas Choate of Tunnel Hill; 5 grandchildren – Lane Charles Cheek, Alyssa Jo Casey, Blake Andrew Wentworth, Brooklyn Melissa Wentworth and Briley Grace Wentworth; 2 sisters – Pat Williams of Tunnel Hill and Barbara (Larry “Spike”) Mighell of Buncombe; 2 brothers – Tommy (Carol) Cheek of Vienna and Jerry Cheek of the Bloomfield community; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a son – Jarrod Cheek and a brother-in-law – Robert Williams.
Billy was a 1974 graduate of Vienna High School. He attended Shawnee Community College and earned a Masters Degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He had also served as an instructor in the aviation department at SIU. He had also been employed in the hardware department of the Anna Wal-Mart.
Billy served in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant.
In his spare time, Billy enjoyed woodworking, gardening, building and construction and fishing. He is remembered for his love of telling “long-winded” stories. Billy especially cherished time spent with Barb, his children, and his grandchildren. He dearly loved his family. Billy was of the Christian Faith.
A service honoring the life of Billy Cheek will be conducted Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
Burial will be in the Graves – Mt. Olive Cemetery, north of Vienna. Military graveside honors will be accorded.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
