Catherine B. (Graves) Moore

Catherine B. Graves Moore, age 91 years, a resident of rural Belknap, Illinois, passed away Saturday evening, October 19, 2019, at 8 p.m. at her home.

 Catherine was born December 6, 1927 in the Green Briar community of Johnson County Illinois.  She was the daughter of John Ervin Graves and Lillian (Richards) Graves.

On July 8, 1948, Catherine was united in marriage to Robert J. “Bob” Moore at the Vienna United Methodist Church parsonage.  Bob preceded her in death on September 23, 2014.

Catherine is survived by: her children – Sharon Moore of Belknap, Gary (Karen) Moore of Jonesboro, Jim (Grace) Moore of Vienna, Gail (Rich) Maynor of Vienna, Mike (Mitzi) Moore of Goreville and Doug (Mandy) Moore of Belknap, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, her twin sister – Virginia Bean of Vienna; 2 sisters-in-law – Margaret Graves and Myrna Graves both of Vienna; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Catherine was preceded in death by: 2 sisters – Barbara Duvall and Norma Vaughn; 2 brothers – Johnny Bob Graves and Paul Graves; an infant brother – William James Graves; and 2 brothers-in-law – Carroll Bean and Ed Vaughn.

As a young child, Catherine attended the Green Briar School.  She was a graduate of the Belknap Public School.  Catherine had worked as a packer at Poly-Bag when the business was located in Belknap.  She also had worked as a cook in the kitchen of the Jolly Red Pig Restaurant and Hillview Health Care Center both in Vienna.  Catherine was last employed as a cook at the Whistlers and Whittlers Senior Citizens Center.

Catherine was a longtime member of the Johnson County Homemaker’s Extension.  She was also one of the original members of the Belknap Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Catherine was a member of the Belknap United Methodist Church.  She loved to be outdoors working in her yard, tending to her flowers and vegetable garden. She particularly loved to raise roses.  Catherine also enjoyed watching hummingbirds at her feeders and the rabbits that frequented her yard.  She spent many happy hours in her front yard swing with her husband Bob.  They also enjoyed decorating the exterior of their home with lights during the Christmas season.

A service honoring the life of Catherine Graves Moore will be conducted Thursday morning, October 24, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor Larry Gilbert will officiate.

Burial will be in the Belknap Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from 5 – 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
