Ullin, Il — The Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees announced immediately after their monthly board meeting that Dr. Kathleen Curphy, current Vice President of Academic Affairs, has been appointed as interim president for Shawnee College.
Dr. Curphy provides a wealth of experience and achievements in her leadership of two-year colleges. She has over twenty-five years’ experience as a two-year college administrator, where she has provided executive-level guidance for both rural and urban multi-campus institutions. Dr. Curphy has served as Provost, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Customize Training and Workforce Development. In addition, she has gained expertise across a broad array of functional areas: academic and student services, strategic and academic planning, financial management, fundraising, and shared governance. She brings a realistic and results-oriented approach to leadership in the comprehensive community college. She is committed to the ideas of access and opportunity and has a passion for the mission of the community college and the students and communities served by that mission.
Throughout her career, Dr. Curphy’s focus on student success and her collaborative leadership style have served as the driving force behind learning innovations, launching new programs and initiatives, and effectively implementing policy changes. Dr. Curphy earned her Ph.D. from Capella University, where she focused her dissertation on Competencies for Community College Leaders. Her Ed. S. Degree is from the University of Central Missouri with a specialty in technical education, and both her Bachelor’s in Education and Master’s in Student Personnel Services/Counseling were obtained from the University of Northern Iowa.
Dr. Curphy commented, “I am excited about the opportunity to continue the forward momentum of Shawnee College. We are an excellent institution providing a high level of academic experience for our students, and I am committed to their success.”
Dr. Countance Anderson Vice President of Student Success echoed these remarks: “I have enjoyed working with Dr. Curphy over the past several months and am confident in her ability to help the institution to work collaboratively for the good of our student population, and I am truly hopeful for the future of Shawnee.”
Shawnee College continues efforts to expand services throughout the region and has recently begun offering in-district tuition to counties in Western Kentucky and Southeast Missouri. The college is currently enrolling for their Fall semester.
