James (Jimmy) Collins, 88, of Karnak, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Jim was born June 7, 1930 in Makanda Illinois . He was united in marriage with Joyce Little on June 9, 1950. Jim was a member of the Karnak United Methodist Church. Jim worked as maintenance for the Village of Karnak for many years and later retiring as management supervisor from the Map Training Center in Metropolis. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Jim traveled over many states and won National Championship Awards showing his prize show chickens. He loved working outside especially gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Collins; daughter, April Lilly of Mount Vernon; grandson, Anthony (Lori) Jones of Grand Chain, granddaughters, Bertha Reed, Johna Lilly and Amberlea Smith; eleven great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, James Anthony Collins; parents, Jim and Kate Cox Collins; sister, Wanda Spurlock; brother, Charles Collins.
Graveside funeral services honoring the life of Mr. James “Jimmy” Collins will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Lower Salem Cemetery in rural Grand Chain. Rev. Alan Milligan will be officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army Burial Detail Team and area veterans. Those attending are asked to gather at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, envelopes will be provided at the service.
