Verna Green, age 100 years, a resident of Cypress, Illinois, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 24, 2019, at 3:40 p.m. at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. At the time of her passing, Verna was surrounded by members of her loving family.
Verna was born January 1, 1919 in Grand Tower, Illinois. She was the daughter of Frank and Effie (Tope) Congleton.
On June 21, 1937, Verna was united in marriage to Fred Green. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1988.
Survivors include: a daughter – Rita Moake of Cypress; 4 grandchildren – Debbie Green, Angela Rudluff, LaVerne Green, and Chuck Moake; 7 great grandchildren – Cale Moake, Blaine Moake, Catilyne Green, Hannah Green, Bryson Moake, Brady Rudluff and Jonathon Green; a great-great granddaughter – Kynleigh Moake; a daughter-in-law – Pam Green of Cypress; and an adopted granddaughter – Jennifer Burnam Moss.
In addition to her parents and husband, Verna was preceded in death by a son – Roger Green; a son-in-law – Frank Moake; and 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Verna was the former co-owner and operator of Green Implement and Supply Co. Inc. in Cypress.
She was a member of the former Cypress Chapter # 886 Order of the Eastern Star. Verna was also a former volunteer member of the Western Baptist Hospital auxiliary. She was a dedicated University of Kentucky Wildcats fan.
A service honoring the life of Verna Green will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Billy Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in the Cypress Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home.
Those attending the visitation and service are invited to wear Kentucky Wildcat attire.
