Dorothy Funderburk Schnaare

Dorothy Funderburk Schnaare, 89, of Grand Chain, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Dorothy was a graduate of Elkhart Central High School in Elkhart, Indiana. Dorothy  and Howard Schnaare were united in marriage on February 5, 1946.  Dorothy  especially loved spending time with her granddaughter, Breezly. She enjoyed baking and gardening and enjoyed her dogs Milo, Lizzie and Cady.  Dorothy loved Polka dancing with her late husband, Howard.  She was a member of the Hillerman Baptist Church. Dorothy had retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years. She enjoyed the postal conventions in Hawaii.

She is survived by two sons, Steve Schnaare of Grand Chain, Dale (Tracy) Schnaare of Grand Chain, three grandchildren, Breezly Schnaare and Will of Metropolis, Tina O’nan (John) of Salem, Kentucky, Janet Hankins of Metropolis, step daughter, Cecilia Hawkins of Metropolis, brothers, Bob,  Don, David and Mike Funderburk, and a very  special friend, Barb Morey.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Big H” Schnaare in 2016, parents William and Bertha Rushing Funderburk, and one sister Betty Jones.

Funeral services honoring the life of Mrs. Dorothy Funderburk Schnaare will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.  Interment will follow at the Ohio Chapel Cemetery near Grand Chain.  Rev. Ben Hotel will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 till 8 at the funeral home and Friday morning from 11a.m. until the service hour.
