Vienna Lady Rams claim regional crown, headed to state

Start spreading the news: the Vienna Lady Rams junior high basketball team is headed to the state tournament.

The Lady Rams won the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class M Region 2 Tournament over the weekend by downing Eldorado 44-33 in the regional championship game Saturday afternoon.

Vienna reached the regional championship thanks to a 47-28 victory over Hardin County on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Vienna kicks off play at the SIJHSAA Class M state tournament Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Rend Lake College in Ina against Sparta (Region 4 champion), with the winner taking on the winner of either Christopher (Region 2 winner) or St. Clare (Region 6 champion) on Monday at 6 p.m. 

The state tournament concludes Friday, Jan. 25 at Ina, with the third-place game set for 6 p.m. and the championship to follow at 7:30 p.m
