Joyce E. Terry Stryker

Joyce E. Terry Stryker, age 79 years, a resident of Vienna and a former resident of Goreville, passed away Monday afternoon, January 14, 2019, at 2:09 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. 

Joyce was born August 2, 1939 in Goreville, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Moses Edwin Terry and Lois (Huckleberry) Terry.

Joyce is survived by: a son – John (Ronora) Stryker of Buffalo Grove; a grandson – David Stryker; a brother – Mike (Debbie) McKinney of Goreville; sisters – Terry (Joe) Lambert of Goreville, Rosita (Bill) Scully of Belleville; Barbara Woodrome and Steve of Herrin, Nell (Calvin Dunn) Stokes of Goreville; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Joyce was a graduate of Goreville High School and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  She was employed as a systems analyst by Washington National Insurance Company for 20 years and later by Aon Insurance Company for 15 years.  Following her retirement, Joyce returned to Southern Illinois and resided in Goreville.

Joyce was a member of the Daniel Chapman Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was an avid genealogist.  Joyce also enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles and was an avid reader of mysteries and novels.  Among her favorite authors were Janet Evanovich and David Baldacci.

Joyce was a member of the Goreville United Methodist Church.  She had been active in the United Methodist Women’s organization and had served on the staff parish committee.

A service honoring the life of Joyce Terry Stryker will be conducted Friday morning, January 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Goreville United Methodist Church, 117 West Adams St., Goreville, Illinois.

Burial will be in the Cana Cemetery, north of Goreville.

Visitation will be held Friday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Goreville United Methodist Church.
