Jewel Pearce, age 89 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed away Tuesday morning, January 22, 2019, at 12:51 AM at the home of her daughter, Linda Gill, near Vienna.
Jewel was born May 10, 1929 in the Glendale community. She was the daughter of Thomas Buttrum and Mary (Russell) Buttrum.
She married Alvin Eugene Pearce on August 8, 1945. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1988.
Jewel loved to sew and cook. She spent her later years enjoying time with her considerable family and enjoyed following her beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna and was formerly a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Buncombe. Jewell was formerly employed at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. Later she worked as an assembler at Tuck Tape, Inc. in Carbondale.
Jewel is survived by her children – Robert (Chris) Pearce of Paducah, Kentucky, Gale (Linda) Pearce of Marion, Linda (Dwight) Gill of Vienna, Jack Pearce of Sheridan, Karon (Thomas) Blogg of Peotone, Vicki (Gary) O’Neal of Buncombe, and Brenda (Steve) Gallagher of Peotone; 19 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and a “special girl” Emmalee Anderson-McPheron.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jewel was preceded in death by: 5 brothers – Henry Buttrum, Clarence Buttrum, Walter Buttrum, Thomas Buttrum, Jr. and Wayne Buttrum; a sister – Pearl Trammell; a daughter-in-law – Sandra (Wright) Pearce and 2 great grandchildren.
A service honoring the life of Jewel Pearce will be conducted Sunday afternoon, January 27, 2019, at 1 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 5 Mt. Zion Lane, Buncombe, Illinois. Dr. Ed Hollis and Pastor John Yeo will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 4 PM – 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
