Freeda Mae Ditterline

Freeda Mae Ditterline, age 93 years, a resident of the Flatwoods community, and a former resident of Vienna, passed away Tuesday morning,  January 22, 2019, at 12:46 AM at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Freeda was born April 15, 1925 in the Simpson Township (Johnson County) Illinois.  She was the daughter of Newton A. and Cora Ann (Eades) Robinson.

On August 12, 1946, Freeda was united in marriage to Lowell L. Ditterline in Golconda, Illinois by Judge Gerald Trampe.  Lowell preceded her in death on November 27, 2006.

Freeda is survived by:  her sons – Phillip Ditterline of Vienna and Roger (Anita) Ditterline of the Flatwoods community; 7 grandchildren – Sean (Wendy) Ditterline, Ryan Dyer, Heath (Ginger) Ditterline, Sara (Adam) Pierce, Rebecca Ditterline, Rachel (Joe) Weiss, and Christopher (Kelly) Ditterline; 8 great grandchildren – Alycia, Zoe, KayLee, Aryana, Kiyah, Zane, Toby, and Ember; 2 sisters – Leatrice Weineke of Fairfield and Gertrude Murrie of Lexington, Kentucky; her “spiritual son” – Jim Hale of Vienna; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Freeda was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law – Marilyn Ditterline; 2 brothers – Herman Robinson and Amel Robinson; a sister – Golda Davis; and 2 stillborn sisters – Jeanette Robinson and Mary Evelyn Robinson.

Freeda was a homemaker.  She had also worked as a cook at Massac Memorial Hospital and at a long-term care facility in Aroma Park.

Freeda attended the County Line Baptist Church in the Flatwoods community.  She enjoyed reading, particularly romance and mystery novels.  Freeda was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She also enjoyed quilting, fishing and metal detecting.

A service honoring the life of Freeda Ditterline will be held Thursday afternoon, January 24, 2019, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor David Faulkner will officiate.  Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, east of Ozark.

Visitation will be conducted Wednesday evening, January 23, 2019, from 5 PM – 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
