Rachel S. Collins Evans

Rachel S. Collins Evans, age 64 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Monday evening, December 3, 2018, at 11:50 PM at Baptist Health Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky.

Rachel was born May 21, 1954 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of William Mansel Owen and Gertrude (Burris) Owen.

Rachel was united in marriage to Jackie Evans. They have been together as a couple for over 30 years.

In addition to her husband, Rachel is survived by: 4 children – Bret (Emelda) Collins of Lemoore, California, Rebecca Thompson of Marion, Shanon (Jason) Johns of Horn Lake, Mississippi, and Jessica Evans of Decatur; 6 grandchildren – Jessica, Lucas, Samantha, Shyanne, Destiny, Dezarae; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers – Richard (Joan Faulkner) Owen of Vienna and Ruben (Sheryl) Owen of Sparta; 2 sisters – Judith Ann (Edward) Weaver of Naples, Florida and Ellen (Ron) Peebels of Simpson; and a host of nieces, nephews as well as children and grandchildren of the heart. Rachel was anticipating the birth of a 10th great grandchild in 2019.
She also leaves her beloved grand dog, Aubie.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by: 3 brothers – Jon David Owen, Jesse Joe Owen, and William B. Owen, a sister – Jacquelyn Sue Owen, a niece – J.J. Owen, a sister-in-law – Bonita Owen, and her mother-in-law – Frances Evans.

Rachel was a 1972 graduate of Vienna High School. She also attended Shawnee Community College and earned her accreditation as a certified nurse’s aide. She was also an E.M.T. (Emergency Medical Technician) and an E.R.T. (Emergency Rescue Technician). Rachel was the former coordinator of the Johnson County Ambulance Service.

Rachel enjoyed knitting and was a member of a knitting group at the church where she was a member, Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church, near Simpson. Rachel also enjoyed watching television, reading, and playing games on her computer.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

A service honoring the life of Rachel Collins Evans will be held Sunday afternoon, December 9, 2018, at 2:30 PM at Gilead Church, 4359 Gilead Church Road, Simpson, IL, Pastor Daniel Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery.

Visitation will be conducted from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM Sunday at Gilead Church.
