Florence Simmons, age 91 years, a resident of rural Ozark, Illinois, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 29, 2018, at 4:05 PM at Herrin Hospital.
Florence was born November 9, 1927 at Ozark. She was the daughter of Dewey and Opal (McCuan) Ross.
On November 10, 1945 Florence was united in marriage to Thomas Lee Simmons at Ozark. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1993.
Survivors include: her son – Charles Lee (Sue) Simmons of Ozark; 5 granddaughters – Kelley (Ronnie) Shoemaker, Sarah (Chris) Holhubner, Bethany (Marc) Prusaczyk, Amanda (Michael) Vinson & Lacey (Luke) Shepard; 8 great grandchildren – Kassidy (Jordan) Mott, Lindsey Holhubner, Tommy Holhubner, Rayland Kramer, Tristan Vinson, Alliana Vinson, Olivia Shepard and Charlee Grace Shepard; a brother – C.D. (Ruth) Ross of Vienna and a sister – Roma Deaton of Tunnel Hill; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Florence was preceded in death by a daughter & son-in-law – Linda Jean and Rufus “Nip” McDonald as well as a brother-in-law – Charles L. Deaton
Florence was a homemaker. She had also worked in a produce warehouse as a fruit packer and as a cook at the New Simpson Hill School. Florence enjoyed attending and watching sporting events and ballgames. She closely followed and supported the sports activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Florence was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church.
A funeral service honoring the life of Florence Simmons will be held Tuesday afternoon, January 1, 2019, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor David Michael Webb will officiate. Burial will be in the Wise-Robinson Cemetery near Ozark.
Visitation will be from 10 AM – 1 PM Tuesdayat Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
