Oma Vee Odum

Oma Vee Odum, age 92 years, a resident of the Angel Acres Shared Living Facility near Marion since 2011 and a former resident of rural Vienna, passed away Friday morning, November 23, 2018, at 6:45 AM at her home.

Oma Vee was born November 14, 1926 in White County Arkansas.  She was the daughter of William Henry and Maggie (Neely) Walden.

On January 18, 1947, Oma Vee was united in marriage to John Vernial Odum in Johnson County Illinois.  He preceded her in death on July 12, 2003.

Survivors include: 2 daughters – Verna Kay (David) Gunther and Charlene (Larry) Baity all of Goreville; 2 grandchildren – Lonnie (Gina) Gunther and Staci Feather; 4 great grandchildren – Dustin, Aaron, Andy, and Kaylee Gunther; a sister – Ethel Lee Tanner of Oceanside, California; a sister-in-law – Sylvia Walden of San Antonio, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Oma Vee was preceded in death by: a son – Billy Odum; a grandson – Scott Baity; a brother – Richmon Walden and a brother-in-law – Ralph Tanner

Oma Vee was a homemaker.  She was of the Pentecostal faith.

A graveside service honoring the life of Oma Vee Odum will be conducted Sunday morning, November 25, 2018, at 11 AM at the Graves – Mt. Olive Cemetery, north of Vienna.  Pastor Curtis Craig will officiate.  Those attending the service are asked to gather at 10:45 AM.

The family requests that flowers please be omitted.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 320 East Walnut Street, Suite A, Carbondale, IL 62901.
