City Council approves Safe Route to School grant application

The Vienna City Council held a special meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. in order to approve a grant application for Safe Route to School in the amount of $200,000.

The grant is through the Illinois Department of Transportation, and can only be used on projects for grades K-8. The council has previously discussed using this grant for part of a sidewalk project, where a sidewalk will be placed leading from Vienna Grade School to Vienna High School.

Other needs have also been discussed that the grant may fund, including the improvement of sidewalks, development of crosswalks, and the installation of speed bumps.
