Joe A. Hancock

Joe A. Hancock, age 45 years, a resident of Simpson, Illinois, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2018, at 12:11 PM at his home.

Joe was born January 8, 1973 in Paducah, Kentucky.  He was the son of Joseph Randall “Jolly” Hancock and Mary Elizabeth (Allen) Hancock.

On April 24, 2010, Joe was united in marriage to April Jarvis at the New Burnside Community Church.  She survives.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by: his mother – Elizabeth Hancock of Grantsburg; children – Miranda (Nick Stewart) Hancock of Marion, Marissa Hancock of Harrisburg, Joseph Hancock of Marion, Courtney Norris of Creal Springs, Chance Holder of Simpson, Michael Williams of Creal Springs, Laci Holder of Simpson and a special bonus baby “Buckshot”, 3 grandchildren – Jackilynn Norris, Gauge Norris, and Bentley Brannam; a sister – Mandy (John) Totty of Paducah; as well as a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph R. “Jolly” Hancock.

Joe attended Vienna High School.  He was a U.S. Army veteran.  Joe had been employed for over 20 years as an operator by Southern Illinois Materials/Delta, Inc. at the Buncombe quarry.  

He was a life member of the N.R.A. and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Joe was a member of the Christian faith.

A graveside service honoring the life of Joe Hancock will be conducted Wednesday morning, October 24, 2018, at 11 AM at the Church of God Cemetery, 40 Church of God Road, Vienna, Illinois.  Pastor Jeff Gee will officiate.  Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors detail.

Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 10:45 AM Wednesday.  There will be no public visitation.

Memorials may be left in care of Bailey Funeral Home to assist the family with expenses.
