Stella Mae “Mazie” Perry, age 75 years, a resident of rural Goreville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, September 15, 2018, at 11:55 PM at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
Mazie was born November 4, 1942 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the eldest child of Royal Challey Tucker and Rosie Pearl (Dunn) Tucker.
On June 13, 1959, Mazie was united in marriage to Rev. Tex G. Perry in Johnson County Illinois. He survives.
Other survivors include: their children – Anita Mae (Charles Spinner) Crane of Goreville, James Gorden (Deborah) Perry of Crainville and Patricia Kay Miller of Eddyville; 6 grandchildren – Anita R. (Bill) Grimes of West Frankfort, Felicia Catherine (Chad) Maze of New Mexico, Rebecca Nicole Perry of Marion, Gabe Perry of Marion, Blake (Brianne) Schuchardt of Pope County, and Adam Schuchardt of Paducah, Kentucky; 7 great grandchildren – Kristi Renee’ Brown, Tristen Allen Brown, Braelyn Schuchardt, Brynlee Schuchardt, Jaden, Meiyah, and Madison; 3 step great grandchildren – Rachelle Grimes, Andrew Grimes and Brantley Grimes; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Mazie was preceded in death by: an infant son – Tex Timothy Perry, a brother – Elvis Tucker, and a sister – Patsy Ann Averitt.
Mazie was a homemaker. She had been employed for a time by Olin Corporation as well as Smoler Brother’s Manufacturing in Herrin. She had also worked at Sammy’s Pizza in Kankakee and had provided in-home health care service.
Mazie was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Goreville. During the time that her husband, Rev. Tex Perry, served as pastor of the Ozark Pentecostal Church, Mazie was very active in church ministry and had served as a Sunday school teacher.
Mazie enjoyed “girls-day-outings” with family and having her nails done. She spent many pleasant hours working cryptogram puzzles and playing cards. Mazie particularly cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
A service honoring the life of Stella Mae Perry will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, September 19, 2018, at 1 PM at the First Pentecostal Church, 915 North Broadway, Goreville. Pastor R.G. Null will officiate.
Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery near Goreville.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2018, from 11 AM – 1 PM at the First Pentecostal Church.
