Jessalyn A. Canupp, age 96 years, a former resident of Buncombe and Cobden, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 16, 2018, at 12:20 PM at the home of her great-niece, Amye LaVerdi, near Benton, Kentucky.
Jessalyn was born December 18, 1921 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Harrison and Grace (Penrod) Adams.
On March 19, 1948, Jessalyn was united in marriage to Robert Canupp in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1995.
Survivors include: 2 sisters-in-law – Reba Adams and Audrey Canupp; 2 nephews – Larry Parks and J.R. Parks; as well as great nieces and a host of friends and former students.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jessalyn was preceded in death by: 2 sisters – Mae Parks and Glenna Glass as well as a brother – Oard Adams.
Jessalyn earned a Bachelors Degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. She was a lifelong educator and had taught in the Vienna and Cypress School Systems for 41 years prior to her retirement. Additionally, she served as a substitute teacher for 6 years.
Jessalyn was a member of the Cypress United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting and reading her Bible.
A service honoring the life of Jessalyn A. Canupp will be conducted Thursday morning, September 20, 2018, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jay Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in the Cypress Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted from 10 AM – 11 AM Thursday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
