GHS Class of ’68 was week-long celebration

Fifty years ago the class of 1968, twenty-four of them, bid adieu to their high school years and scattered to begin new lives.

Through the years they have gathered at reunions, but this year called for a really special celebration for thirteen of the now 68-year-olds.  Five members of the class have passed away.

So plans were made for a week-long series of fun events, which included a Southern Illinois Miners game; Goofy Golf; church; bowling; a tour of their alma mater, an afternoon of Du Quoin State Fair horse racing; a night at the movies; a family picnic; a different restaurant each day;  a visit with a former classmate, who has health issues; with the grand finale a dinner at the Long Horn Restaurant.  They were accompanied by their mates and some school friends of other years joined in the fun.

Pictured their last evening together at the Long Horn Restaurant at Pulley’s Mill are: Front, L-R:  Janice Svilar Mighell, Goreville.  Perry Murray, Desoto.  Judy Lockaby Key, Empire, Alabama.  Neal Watkins, Vienna.  Maureen Babbish Morris, Belleville.  Leonard Craig, Goreville.  Judy Burlison Gibbs, Jonesboro.  Linda Travis Burlison, Goreville.  Karen Thornton Ray, Goreville.  Joyce Massey Sullivan, Goreville.  Candy Eastman Craig, Goreville.  Jerry Jones, Vienna.  Frances Stokes Francis, Goreville.
