Cemetery board seeks interest in columbarium

The Vienna Fraternal Cemetery Board is seeking information from area residents as to their interest in a proposed columbarium.

A columbarium provides for the permanent placement and memorialization of cremated human remains. Today, in the United States, almost 50% of our society chooses cremation as a method of final disposition. While some families select to bury or scatter cremated remains, others look at columbarium placement as an appropriate and dignified option.

The purchase of a personal niche in a columbarium not only provides for urn placement but it also eliminates the need to purchase a separate cemetery space as well as a cemetery monument or marker.

At present, the board is gathering information and trying to determine the level of local interest in a community columbarium.

For more information, or to express interest, contact Board Chairman Rick Swaney at 618-201-6681 or Board member Chesley Williams at 618-771-0294.
