Lodema A. Alsip

Lodema Ann Alsip (nee Stewart), age 84 years, a longtime resident of Vienna joined our heavenly Father on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at 1:20 PM at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky. At the time of her passing, Lodema had her family by her side as she peacefully joined her heavenly family.

Lodema was born May 7, 1934 in Johnson County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Paul and Thelma (Taylor) Stewart. Lodema was raised in Johnson County and was a 1952 graduate of Vienna High School. Lodema was of the Baptist faith and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna. She was also a member of Egyptian Chapter # 30 Order of the Eastern Star.

On May 30, 1953, Lodema and Dillard moved to Elgin, Illinois. For 17 years, Lodema served as the assistant manager of the Home Value Center in St. Charles. She and Dillard retired to Vienna in October 1999. Lodema has been a homemaker for the past 19 years. She enjoyed cooking, feeding the birds, and gardening. She cherished time spent visiting with family and friends, who were a very important part of her life. She was also a loving grandmother and enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lodema is survived by: her beloved husband for the past 65 years, Dillard Alsip; 2 sisters – Virginia Stewart Anderson of Lilburn, Georgia and Mary Stewart Johnson of Elgin; 3 sons – Dennis (Suanne) Stewart of Texas City, Texas, Terry (Sue) Alsip of Vienna, and David (Lynn) Alsip of Elgin; a sister-in-law – Judy Stewart of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Lodema was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Thelma Stewart, a brother – William Stewart; a sister – Wanda Stewart Kerley; and 2 brothers-in-law – Wade Kerley and Larry Johnson.

A memorial service honoring the life of Lodema Alsip will be conducted Monday morning, August 6, 2018, at 11:30 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Dr. Ed Hollis will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 AM – 11:30 AM Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 727, Vienna, Illinois 62995, to the Heather Harper Treat Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 98, Vienna, Illinois 62995 or to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
