Barbara K. George, age 68 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Friday morning, August 24, 2018, at 8:45 AM at her home.
Barbara was born November 21, 1949 at Riverside Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Norman “Red” Poe and Mary (Grimes) Poe.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1981, Barbara was united in marriage to Alan George in Vienna at his parent’s home. He survives.
Other survivors include: 3 children – Angie (Kevin) Breeden, Mike (Elizabeth) Starrick and Amanda (Jeff) Lauderdale all of Vienna; 6 grandchildren – Jakob Breeden, Grace Breeden, James Lauderdale, Gabriel Starrick, Hannah Lauderdale, and Mary Kate Starrick; and a brother – Jerry (Dorothy) Grimes of Valparaiso, Indiana.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
Barbara was a 1967 graduate of Marion High School. She earned an Associate Degree from Shawnee Community College.
Barbara was a special needs educator. She was employed for 26 years by JAMP Special Education Services and retired in 2016. Barbara was also a substitute teacher in the Johnson County Public School systems.
Barbara was a member of the Vienna First United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and gardening. Barbara had a passion for making arts and crafts and loved “glitter.”
A graveside service honoring the life of Barbara George will be held Monday morning, August 27, 2018, at 11 AM at Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Pastor Joe Richard will officiate. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 10:45 AM.
Immediately following the graveside service, all are invited to a luncheon and an informal celebration of Barbara’s life to be held in the fellowship hall of the Vienna First United Methodist Church. A time of sharing of stories and remembrances of Barbara’s life will be held during the celebration of her life.
