Sherry Kay Bagby, age 65 years, a resident of Vienna and a former resident of Cypress, passed away Saturday morning, July 21, 2018, at 7:10 AM at Century Assisted Living in Carbondale, Illinois.
Sherry was born December 19, 1952 in Anna, Illinois. She was the second of nine children born to Robert and Ruby (Earnhart) Williams.
Sherry is survived by: her children – Toma Kaye (John) Branche of Cypress and John (Sonny) Bagby of Vienna; 7 grandchildren – Brett & Chase Osman and Daisy, Cole, John, Clayton and Sandra Kay Bagby; her loving companion for the past 10 years – Ed Guernsey of Vienna; her siblings – Jerry (Glenda) Williams of Carterville, Gary (Ellen) Williams of Vienna, Donna Willeford of Vienna, Debra Kohlbacher of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, David (Christine) Williams of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin (Glenda) Williams of Calvert City, Kentucky, Keith Williams of Stonefort, and Karen (Tony) Elder of Mounds; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents.
Sherry was a 1971 graduate of Vienna High School. She also attended Shawnee Community College at Ullin. Sherry had worked at the former Throgmorton Drug Store in Vienna as well as Green Implement Company in Cypress. She was also a car-hop at Hoot’s Drive-In. Sherry then worked for 33 years prior to her retirement for the United States Postal Service. During her working career, Sherry worked at a number of area post offices, including: Metropolis, Makanda, Cypress, Carbondale, and Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She had served as the Post Master at Villa Ridge, Simpson, Mound City, Cairo, Anna and Vienna Post Offices. Sherry had served as a lobbyist as well as the State President for the Illinois Division of N.A.P.U.S. (now United Post Masters and Managers of America). She was a member of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce. Sherry had been very involved in the P.T.O. and was formerly a very active 4-H volunteer leader. Sherry was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. She was of the Baptist faith.
In her spare time, Sherry enjoyed traveling, holiday home decorating, spending time visiting with and “pranking” family and friends. Sherry and Ed enjoyed motorcycling.
A service honoring the life of Sherry Bagby will be held Thursday morning, July 26, 2018, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. A time of sharing of stories and memories of Sherry will be given during the service. Relatives and friends are encouraged to share their favorite remembrance of Sherry.
Burial will be in the Cypress Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted Wednesday evening, July 25, 2018, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
