John Schnaare

John Schnaare, 90, of Olmsted,  passed away at 2 p.m.  Saturday, July 21,  2018 at the Metropolis Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

John was born February 6, 1928 in Olmsted, Illinois. He was a Veteran of the United States Army.  John and Mary Jewell Watkins Schnaare were united in marriage on September 14, 1946. They worked together on their family farm for many years in the grain and cattle business.  John served on the First State Bank of Olmsted Board for many years and was a member of the Farm Bureau.  One of John’s passions was going to auctions,  he loved buying and selling, he also had been an avid  hunter having hunted in Montana, Colorado and Wyoming.

John is survived by three sisters, Elsie Shaffer of Dongola, Agnes Thurston of Pulaski and Margaret Thompson of Jefferson City, Missouri. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends Friend, Jean Davis of Metropolis.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jewell Watkins Schnaare, parents, Werner and Josephine Holhubner Schnaare, brother, Kenneth Schnaare, an infant brother, three sisters, Mildred Helig, Irene Florreich and Bert Curry.

Funeral services honoring Mr. John Schnaare will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak, Illinois.  Pastor Paul Donner will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.  Interment will follow at the Cypress Cemetery.  Full Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army National Guard Burial Detail Team and the American Legion Post 178 of Villa Ridge.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olmsted, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Curry, Wyatt Curry, Dustin Thurston, Blake Thurston, John Shaffer and Brandon Shaffer.
