Sharon Holder, age 73 years, a resident of rural Grantsburg, passed away Sunday morning, June 17, 2018, at 1:15 AM at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Sharon was born January 5, 1945 in Carbondale, Illinois. She was the daughter of Curtis Charles Kennedy and Virginia B. (Harris) Kennedy.
On October 30, 1965, Sharon was united in marriage to Lewis R. Holder in Metropolis, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2015.
Sharon is survived by: her daughter – Kim (Patrick) Holder Karns of Eldorado; 3 grandchildren – Chris (Desiree) Covey, Jesse (Aaron Watkins) Covey, and Harley (Chelsea) Covey; 6 great grandchildren – Kaylee Jo Covey, Kenzy Ann Covey, Tristan Swartz, Randall Covey, Emmitt Covey and Landon Conley.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Sharon was a graduate of Vienna High School. She then attended Draughon’s Business College in Paducah, Kentucky. Sharon had been employed as a legal secretary and home health care provider. She also worked for many years in the sewing department of the Good Luck (later Nationwide) Glove Co. in Metropolis.
Sharon was a member of New Hope Baptist Church near New Columbia. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.
A graveside service honoring the life of Sharon Holder will be held Saturday morning, June 23, 2018, at 10 AM at the New Hope Cemetery (6744 New Columbia Road, Grantsburg, IL). Pastor Frank Forthman will officiate.
There will be no public visitation. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 9:45 AM Saturday.
