Rev. William “Bill” Ernest Morris, age 69 years, a resident of Carterville, Illinois since December 2016 and a former resident of Elgin, passed away Wednesday evening, May 23, 2018, at 11:32 PM at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Bill was born December 2, 1948 in Pana, Illinois. He was the son of Ernest Morris and Madeline (Coonce) Morris.
On March 11, 1977, Bill was united in marriage to Lois Ann Grant in the parsonage of the United Pentecostal Church in Downer’s Grove. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by: a brother – Mark D. (his wife, Janice) Morris of Republic, Missouri; a sister-in-law – Betty Nell Grant of Goreville; a niece, 2 great nephews and a great niece.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a nephew.
Bill was a 1967 graduate of Pana High School. He also was a graduate of the Indiana Bible College correspondence program. Bill served as the pastor for 5 years at the United Pentecostal Church in Elgin, IL (UPCI). He was a faithful and devoted Christian and loved to attend church and study the Bible. Since their return to Southern Illinois, Bill and Lois have worshipped at the Apostolic House of Worship in Marion.
Bill was employed for several years as a supervisor and foreman at K.A. Steel in Lamont. He was also a licensed barber. Bill had worked as a barber in Decatur and later owned and operated his own business, Bill’s Barber Shop, in Aurora, South Elgin and Elgin, Illinois.
Bill enjoyed collecting eagle figurines.
A service honoring the life of William Ernest Morris will be held Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2018 at 1:30 PM at the First Pentecostal Church, 915 North Broadway Street, Goreville, Illinois 62939. Burial will be in the Cana Cemetery north of Goreville.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 4 PM – 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna and from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM Sunday at the First Pentecostal Church in Goreville.
