Nan Worrell, age 89 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 15, 2018, at 4:32 PM at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna.
Nan was born August 27, 1928 in Corydon, Iowa. She was the daughter of James L. and Floris (Sollenbarger) Helme.
On April 28, 1951, Nan was united in marriage to William J. Worrell in Evanston, Illinois. He survives.
Other survivors include: their children – William J. “Skip” Worrell of Palatine; Victoria Chamberlain of Lakin, Kansas, and John Worrell of Firestone, Colorado; 3 grandchildren – Danny Chamberlain, Laurie Collins, and Pete Chamberlain; and 2 great grandchildren – Bentley Collins and Brady Chamberlain. Nan was also anticipating the birth of a great grandchild in June.
Nan was preceded in death by her parents, a sister – Sara Helme, her father-in-law and mother-in-law – F.E. and Esther Worrell and a brother-in-law – James Worrell.
Nan attended the University of Illinois where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Nan began her teaching career in the Freeport, Illinois school system. She taught English at Vienna High School for over 30 years prior to her retirement in 1988.
Nan was a member of the Johnson County Retired Teachers’ Association and had been a former member of the Vienna Women’s Club. She and Bill were longtime faithful members of the Vienna First United Methodist Church.
Nan enjoyed watching sporting events on television. She also crafted needlework and crochet items. Nan and Bill traveled extensively and had visited many countries through the years. Nan is fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
A service honoring the life of Nan Worrell will be conducted Monday afternoon, February 19, 2018, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Dr. Joe Richard will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted from 1 PM – 2 PM Monday at Bailey Funeral Home.
