Lady Eagles roll past Trico on Senior Night

On Monday, January 29th the Vienna Eagles played a home conference game against the Trico Pioneers with many in attendance.

Before the tipoff, the Lady Eagles recognized two senior players for their contribution to the team for the past four years. Seniors Lindsey Holhubner and Madie Penrod were applauded heavily before the game fired up.

Afterwards, Holhubner was recognized again, but this time individually for scoring a 1,000 points throughout her 4 years at Vienna High School. A great accomplishment not many can say that have done, congrats again Lindsey!

The Lady Eagles, already having a tremendous season, proved why they were the better team in this one. They ended the first quarter with a 36-11 lead over Trico, absolutely acting as a juggernaut each possession. They continued to shine as they were firing from all cylinders in this game; offense, defense, teamwork – everything was working for the Lady Eagles. They headed into halftime with a more than comfortable lead, 52-22 leading very strongly.

The Lady Eagles didn’t look back as they capped off their 17th win of the season approving to a 17-8 record on the year, after the 70-43 over Trico.

Leading scorers included the two seniors who’s night was definitely theirs, as Holhubner added 16 points. Penrod was lights out from behind the arc, hitting 5 three pointers throughout the game to end her night with 15 points.

As a whole the Lady Eagles played great basketball and our ready for their upcoming games.

They were to play at Cobden Tuesday, Jan. 30. The next games will be Thursday, Feb. 1, at Goreville at 6:15 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 3, at Chester at 3 p.m.

The Lady Eagles will also gear up for the regional game set on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Duquoin against West Frankfort at 7:30 p.m.
