Albert V. Norton, Sr., age 77 years, a resident of rural Simpson, Illinois (the Cedar Grove community), passed away Thursday morning, February 15, 2018, at 7:33 AM at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Albert was born December 7, 1940 in Newport, Kentucky. He was the son of Stanley Sylvester Norton and Mary Elizabeth (Abner) Norton.
On October 21, 1961, Albert was united in marriage to Jeanette Parsons in Metropolis, Illinois. She survives.
Other survivors include: their children – Vernon Norton of Michigan, Victor (Mary) Norton of Simpson, James (Mary) Norton of Ozark, Stephen Norton of Georgia and Sharrol Norton of Simpson; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; 3 brothers – Thomas Averitt of Marion, Jesse Averitt of Vienna, and John Paul Averitt of Anna; 3 sisters – Agnes Rose of El Paso, Mary (Elry) Faulkner and Carol (Neal) Watkins all of Vienna; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Albert was also anticipating the upcoming birth of a great grandchild and a great-great grandchild.
Albert was preceded in death by his father, Stanley S. Norton, who was killed in action in Europe during the second World War; his mother and stepfather – Mary Abner Norton Averitt and William Averitt, Sr.; a son – Terry Norton; 4 brothers – William Averitt, Jr., Gary Averitt, Stanley Sylvester Norton, Jr. and Sylvester Lee Norton; and 2 sisters- Eva Ensor and Katrina Ley.
Albert received his automotive technician training at Southeastern Illinois College near Harrisburg. He was employed as a diesel mechanic by C.E.D.S. Construction in Cumming, Georgia.
Albert attended the Glendale Apostolic Church. He is remembered for his love of hunting and fishing.
A service honoring the life of Albert Norton will be conducted Sunday afternoon, February 18, 2018, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Harold Canup, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Pope County.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 10 AM – 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.
