Mildred Ellen “Millie” Gallimore, age 93 years, a resident of Vienna and a former resident of Phoenix, Arizona from 1983-1999 and Holbrook, Arizona from 1999-2011, passed away Wednesday evening, November 29, 2017, at 8 PM at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna.
Millie was born August 28, 1924 in McHenry, Illinois. She was the daughter of Franklin Moses and Mary Amelia (Maynard) Ensign.
Millie was united in marriage to Ralph Clinton Gallimore in 1944 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was later united in marriage to Earl Swart.
Millie is survived by: 2 daughters – Barbara C. Krause of Vienna and Ellen (her husband, Craig) Carlton of Vienna; 3 granddaughters – Patricia “Shawn” Traywick of Eufaula, Alabama, Karena Cunningham of Winslow, Arizona, and Clarinda “Rinnie” Bryan of Eufaula, Alabama; 8 great grandchildren; 1 step grandson – Shane Carlton of Goreville; a step granddaughter – Stephanie Carlton of Cambria; 6 step great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Millie was preceded in death by: a son – Dennis Ray Gallimore; a son-in-law – Emil Krause; 2 sisters – Margaret L. Trent Mullinax and Florence Trent Allen; a brother – Andrew “Jack” Trent; and a stepgrandson – Johnathan Carlton.
Millie was a member of the 1943 graduating class from Palentine, Illinois High School, where she was honored as one of the first two women selected to the National Honor Society. Following her graduation, Millie accepted a civil service position and worked at the Pentagon during World War II. Following her marriage, Millie was employed in a variety of secretarial positions and worked as a governess for several families in the Chicago area.
Millie was a former 4-H leader and member of the Pope County Homemakers Extension. She was of the Baptist faith. Millie enjoyed fishing, writing and was formerly an avid bowler. Millie had also taken flying lessons and, at one time, drove and operated a catering truck.
A service honoring the life of Mildred Ellen “Millie” Gallimore will be conducted Saturday morning, December 2, 2017, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Brother Craig Carlton will officiate. Burial will be in the Boulden Cemetery near Eddyville.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning, December 2, 2017, from 10 AM – 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
