Lawrence R. “Sandy” Johnston, age 71 of Jonesboro, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 in the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born, July 13, 1946 in Union County, the son of Claude “HI” and Gladys M. (Lacey) Johnston. He married Kay (Clayton) on April 12, 1968 in Simpson.
Sandy is survived by his loving wife of forty nine years, Kay Johnston of Jonesboro; daughter, Kim Johnston of Vienna; sister, Sharlet Evans of Anna; sister in law, Jeanne Clayton of Simpson; other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother in law, Glen Evans.
Sandy was of the Christian faith. He was retired from Lewis Brothers Bakery, working many years as a route salesman. Sandy was an avid sports fan, especially L.A. Dodgers baseball. He served on the Jonesboro City Counsel and was a Precinct Committeeman. He will be dearly missed by his coffee friends at McDonalds.
Funeral services for Lawrence R. “Sandy” Johnston will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the Gilead Cemetery in Simpson. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Anna. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
