The Lady Eagles were able to start off their season, taking hardware home; winning first place at the Marion Tournament in a 53-34 win over Marion on Friday, Nov. 17.
The Lady Eagles had a spectacular week of basketball, playing four games in the round robin tournament hosted by Marion. Their first game was on Monday, Nov. 13 where they took on a tough Herrin Tigers team and was not able to play to their full potential, losing of a final score 54-40.
With all the Lady Eagles nerves put away in the first game, they were able to win two straight nights in a row, the first game coming on Tuesday, Nov. 14 against Massac in a 45-37 victory and on Thursday, Nov. 16 against Gallatin County with a double digit win 57-47.
This set up the Eagles to compete for a first place trophy, and competed they did; lockdown defense, free-throws falling, smart decision, and good hard basketball was played throughout the whole game allowing the Eagles to capture the win over the Marion Wildcats, who were also 3-1 in the tourney, before the game was settled.
The whole team chipped in on the first place finish, but three individuals on the team stood out with senior Lindsey Holhubner averaging 19.5 points throughout the tourney, and juniors Alyssa Jones and Haleigh Keeling averaging 10 points per game. Holhubner and Keeling were also named to the all-tournament team after their performances.
The Lady Eagles home opener will be on Monday, Nov. 27 against Chester at 6:15 p.m. Come check out your Eagles in action!
