Karrie K. Sims, 55, of Vienna, died on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at her home.
Karrie was born November 13, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Robert Needy, Sr. and Ella Needy Tullock. She married Russell “Rusty” Sims on April 30, 2004.
She was a 1979 graduate of Egyptian High School and then earned a Bachelor’s of Science from Maryville University studying computer science and management. After graduating she worked in St. Louis as a real estate appraiser. Later she worked for Anheuser Busch as a computer and network specialist. Karrie also traveled worldwide while employed as an administrator at FleishmanHillard, setting up computer networks and email systems in other countries. In 2004, Karrie moved back to Southern Illinois and married Rusty. She began working as the Executive Director for S.M.A.R.T. and then as substitute teacher in area grade schools and high schools. She also taught college courses at SIC in Harrisburg. Karrie was an active member and served in multiple roles at Goreville First Baptist Church. She was most proud of and enjoyed her role in life as “MeMe” to all of her grandkids, spoiling them every chance she had.
Karrie is survived by her husband, Rusty Sims; children, Nicole (Jon) Suermann, Andrew (Kayci) Smith, Kala (Adam) Allen, Randy (Heather) Sims; grandchildren, Cecilia, August, Georgia, Ellie, Josie, Liam, Sawyer, Jade, and Iris; step-mother, Ella Needy; sister, Debra (Joseph) Wilson; brothers, Robert (Debbie) Needy, Jr. and Charles Needy; nieces, Colette and Natalie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Needy, Sr., and mother, Ella Needy Tullock.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms with Rev. Michael Vaughn officiating. Cremation will be accorded after services.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Goreville First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
