Eagles Surpass Hamilton County With Authority

The Vienna-Goreville football team took on Hamilton County Foxes on Saturday, October 1st, in a must win game for the Eagles. With the Eagles potentially eyeing a playoff spot this year, they needed this win greatly. The Eagles jumped out early on the Foxes leading 7-0 at the end of the first quarter with Senior, Nolan Dahncke scoring a touchdown and extra point by Senior, Chris Meir.

The second quarter got underway early with the Foxes scoring a touchdown with 11:56, only to fall short of a two-point conversion to make the score 6-7; Eagles still leading. Junior, Logyn Frassoto was able to score a touchdown with 5:05 left in the second quarter, along with Meir’s extra point giving the Eagles a more comfortable 14-6 lead. The Foxes knew they had to capitalize before the second quarter ended and they did just that, scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion; tying things up at 14-14 with 49.7 seconds left.

The third quarter consisted of both teams going back and forth not allowing each other to score, allowing both teams heading into the fourth still tied at 14-14. The fourth quarter was when the Eagles proved they were the better team, at 10:52, Dahncke scored a touchdown and got a two-point conversion to lead 22-14. The Foxes were able to answer with touchdown, but the Eagles countered with Sophomore, Aidan Kuhn scoring a touchdown making the score 28-20 with 5:23 left in the fourth. With 3:25, Dahncke was able to get to the end zone scoring, along with Meir extra point to make the score 35-20.

The Eagles continued to play superbly and Dahncke scored yet again, after getting an interception with 1:35. Meir scored a extra point immediately after, to build up the lead 42-20, Eagles dominating the whole fourth quarter. The Eagles finished the game of a final score 42-20 over the Foxes, improving their season record to 4-2. The Eagles will be back in action Friday, October 6th when they travel to Fairfield for a conference game at 7pm.
