Vienna falls to Galatia

On Thursday, Sept. 7th the Vienna volleyball team took on Galatia at home, where they fell short in a two game set.

Galatia came out early taking a 9-2 lead over the Eagles, before the Eagles were able to end the drought scoring two consecutive points making it 4-9, Galatia still leading.

Galatia’s 12-7 lead put the Eagles in a tough score differential, but they were able to go on a 3-0 run lowering the lead. The Eagles now trailed 10-13.

Galatia then took a 24-16 lead, just one-point shy of winning the first set.

Vienna junior Alyssa Jones and senior Lindsey Holhubner helped add one point a piece making it 18-2, attempting to make a comeback. However, Galatia was able to get the final point of the set winning of a final score of 25-18.

Set two began with Galatia going up 11-4 early in the game before junior Katelyn Wiggs sent a spike Galatia’s way allowing a 4-0 run for the Eagles, changing the score to 8-11, trailing just by three points.

Although the Eagles tried to create a way to win set two, Galatia was having a stellar performance from each player, ending the set early in a 25-10 victory over the Eagles.

The Eagles will play again Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Goreville at 6:15 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Chester at 6:15 p.m.
