Katrina Jean Krelo passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017. Trina was born to Bob and Jean Shoemaker (Cates) on January 2, 1962 in Ann Arbor, MI. Her family moved to the Simpson area in 1972. She loved to sing and dance. Her passion was riding and showing horses. Her love for horses started with a mare named “Trina’s Pride”, the duo won many awards together. Throughout school, she enjoyed participating in FFA and 4H. She was Illinois High School Rodeo Queen and the Miss Illinois Rodeo America. She graduated Vienna High School in 1980.
She married Jerry Krelo in 1984, and they built a home and life together in Vienna. Trina had two boys – Colten, the oldest, and Austin, the youngest. They were her world! She loved their sporting events, especially football. She also had special bonds to her nieces – Dashia Wathen and Kisten Martin, and nephews – Brandon and Dustin Martin.
Trina and Jerry purchased Dolly’s Place from her mom, and she made it a great place to eat and work. After she sold Dolly’s, she pursued her passion for horses. She has taught many how to ride and enjoyed giving lessons to young kids. She was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Johnson County Saddle Club. She was recently inducted into the Fifty Year Horse Society.
Trina is survived by her parents, Bob and Jean Shoemaker, her husband Jerry Krelo, and her two sons – Colten and Austin. She is also survived by sisters Kelli (Kevin) Langston, Kim (Neil) Martin, her nieces (Dashia and Kisten), and her nephews (Brandon and Dustin). Her kindness and beauty will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have Trina being part of their life.
A Celebration of Life for Trina Jean Krelo will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 4PM – 6PM at the Simpson Baptist Church.
