Vienna Scouts attend National Jamboree

Vienna Scout Troop 41 had two scouts to attend the 2017 Boy Scout National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Scout Reservation in Glen Jean, WV. Alex Miller and Andy Waters, both of Vienna attended the ten day Jamboree.

The Boy Scout National Jamboree is held every four years.

There were 32 Scouts from the Greater St Louis Area Council that made up a contingent troop that attended from Southern Illinois and South East Mo. Scouts from Vienna, Anna, Carbondale, Pinckeyville, New Madrid and Festus, Mo. made up the contingent troop.

The contingent troop departed on July 17th and attended the Jamboree thru the 28th. They stopped in Louisville, Ky., on the way to West Virginia for two days where they visited the Louisville Slugger Museum, Mohamed Ali Museum, Churchill Downs and Mega Caverns.

There were approximately 45,000 Scouts in attendance at the Jamboree from all 50 states and Puerto Rico – as well as Ireland, the UK and Columbia.

During the National Jamboree the Scouts had many opportunities to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities, rapelling, white water rafting, mountain biking, skateboarding, bouldering, field sports, fishing, ATV’s, shooting and much more.
