Rufus “Nip” McDonald, age 73, a resident of rural Tunnel Hill, passed away Wednesday morning, August 9, 2017, at 6:08 AM at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky.
Rufus was born July 5, 1944 in Harrisburg, Illinois. He was the second of three children born to Wallace Murray & Grace Leone McDonald.
Rufus was united in marriage to Linda Jean Simmons on February 19, 1970 at the Ozark Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2008.
Survivors include: 2 daughters – Sarah (her husband, Chris) Holhubner and Amanda (her husband, Michael) Vinson all of Vienna; 4 grandchildren – Lindsey Holhubner, Thomas Holhubner, Tristan Vinson and Alliana Vinson; a brother – Wallace “Tuck” (his wife, Twyla) McDonald of Springfield, Missouri; a sister – Susie (her husband, Jim) Lebo of Chandler, Arizona; his mother-in-law – Florence Simmons of Ozark.
Rufus was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Linda.
Rufus was a 1963 graduate of Harrisburg Township High School. He was a United States Army veteran and was stationed in Germany prior to his honorable discharge.
Rufus was employed as a plant mechanic at E.E.I. (Electric Energy, Inc.) in Joppa prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna. Rufus enjoyed fishing, mowing and is fondly remembered for his love of story telling.
A service honoring the life of Rufus “Nip” McDonald will be conducted Saturday morning, August 12, 2017, at 10 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Dr. Ed Hollis will officiate. Burial will be in the Wise-Robinson Cemetery north of Ozark.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, August 11, 2017, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
