Joan Weekly, age 81 years, a resident of rural Simpson, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon, July 7, 2017, at 5:20 PM at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
Joan was born November 5, 1935 in Pope County Illinois. She was the daughter of Leroy and Phyllis (Ditterline) Troutt. Joan’s father was killed in action while serving in France during the second World War.
Joan was united in marriage to Ronnie Weekly on April 13, 1957 in Simpson. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage together. Ronnie passed away on July 20, 2009.
Joan is survived by: a daughter – Carla Tapley of Simpson; a granddaughter Amber (Lance Stevens) Tapley of Paducah, Kentucky; 4 sisters – Norma (Stanley) Barger of Goreville, Deanna (Darrel) Bates and Linda ((Harold) Mott all of Grantsburg and Cheryl Berning of Vienna; a sister-in-law – Rosie Duty; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom she loved dearly.
Joan was a 1953 graduate of Vienna High School. She was a member of the Grantsburg Baptist Church until its closing. She then became a member of County Line Baptist Church in the Flatwoods community.
Joan and Ronnie enjoyed traveling on motor cycles and in their motor home. They visited 37 states in their travels and especially enjoyed Yellowstone National Park. They traveled until Ronnie’s health became an issue. Joan then cared for him until his passing.
Joan loved watching and feeding the raccoons, hummingbirds and blue birds which frequented her yard. Most of all, the enjoyed spending time with her family.
A service honoring the life of Joan Weekly will be held Tuesday afternoon, July 11, 2017, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor David Faulkner will officiate.
Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery near Simpson.
Visitation will be conducted Tuesday from 11 AM – 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
