Betty L. Jones – Obituary

Betty L. Jones, age 86 years, a resident of Anna, IL and a former resident of rural Buncombe, passed away Saturday morning, July 1, 2017, at 8:55 AM at the River to River Residential Community in Anna.

Betty was born June 25, 1931 in Buncombe. She was the daughter of J.O. and Glena (Jones) Stanley. Following the death of her mother, Betty was raised by a loving mother, Archie Stanley.

Betty was united in marriage to Billy Gene Jones on December 24, 1949. Together, Bill and Betty raised two children – Brenda (her husband, Roy) Hogue of Dongola and Gary (his wife, Phyllis) Jones of DuQuoin. Betty also has three grandchildren – Matt (his wife, Kathi) Jones of Tamoroa, Devin (his wife, Elizabeth) Jones of DuQuoin, and Derek (his wife, Johni) Hogue of Cobden; 4 great grandchildren – Madison, Zach, Brayden, and Brooklyn; a brother – George (his wife, Mary) Stanley of Livingston; 2 sisters – Jane Bullock of Carlyle and Rosie (her husband, Gerry) Basler of Lick Creek; a sister-in-law – Emma Lou Lence of Metropolis; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by: a brother and sister-in-law – J.O. and Jean Stanley and a brother-in-law – Ron Bullock.

Betty was a 1950 graduate of Vienna High School. She was employed at the Good Luck Glove Factory in Metropolis and Vienna for many years.

Betty was a member of the former Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Buncombe. Due to her love for babies, she taught the nursery and toddlers in the church for many years. She also enjoyed babysitting. Betty later moved her membership to the Dongola First Baptist Church.

Betty loved to dance and work in her flowers. She was devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and supported them and attended their many activities.

A service honoring the life of Betty Jones will be held Tuesday morning, July 4, 2017, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Mike Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Buncombe.
Visitation will be conducted Monday evening, July 3, 2017, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
