Lawrence David (Yogi) Goins, age 71 years, of rural Grand Chain (the Tick Ridge Community), passed away at 7:57 PM Monday, May 8, 2017, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis from injuries sustained in a UTV-Automobile accident on Tick Ridge Road east of Grand Chain.
Yogi was born April 7, 1946 in Anna, IL, the only child of Theodore Lawrence and Minnie Schierbaum Goins.
On May 13, 1992, Yogi and Kathy Henderson Goins were united in marriage, they shared 25 years together.
Yogi was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Grand Chain High School. Yogi was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Vienna Masonic Lodge #150 and the Ainad Temple Shriners. He was also a member of the Hillbilly Clan. Yogi was an Operator Engineer for Local #318 in Marion and he was a Member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Grand Chain. He started D&K Excavating in 1976 and operated it for 41 years in Grand Chain.
Yogi enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his gator down to check on the river and collecting Allis Chalmer tractors. He expecially loved spending time with his grandkids, and his favorite dog, Booboo. Yogi’s favorite saying was, “Every moment is a pleasure, every day is a holiday and every meal is a feast”!
Yogi is survived by his wife, Kathy Henderson Goins of Grand Chain; one son, Bruce (his wife, Laura Ann) Goins of Grand Chain; one stepson, Steven (his wife, Kristin) Carlton of Grand Chain; five grandchildren, Kaylin Goins of Grand Chain, Aubrey Carlton of Metropolis, Apollo Rodgers of Grand Chain, Eric and Kyle Bohannon of Vienna; one great-granddaughter, Mya Bohannon of Vienna; first wife, Donna Oliver Goins of Grand Chain.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services honoring Lawrence David (Yogi) Goins will be at 2:00 PM Friday, May 12, 2017 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. Mike Shearer will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Ohio Chapel Cemetery near Grand Chain.
Visitation will be Friday, May 12, 2017 from 10 AM – 2 PM at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Pallbearers serving will be Tom Bagby, Eddie Doss, Steven Carlton, Stuart Crissman, Pat Badgley, Bruce Goins, Eric Bohannon and Brad Sexton. Honorary pallbearer will be Bruce Cook.
