April 11, 2017 vs. Trico
The Eagles Baseball team hosted the Trico Pioneers on Tuesday. Trenton Hyde took the mound for the Eagles in their Black Diamond Conference showdown on Tuesday. Hyde surrendered just one run through the first three innings and the Eagles couldn’t manage a to find a hit against the tough Trico pitcher in the first three frames. In the Trico 4th inning, the flood gates opened up, Trico used two Eagle errors, two hits, four walks and a hit batter to account for eight runs and open up a 9-0 lead. Hyde got the only Eagle hit in the game in the 5th inning when his blooper fell between the centerfielder and rightfielder.
April 12, 2017 vs. Carrier Mills
The Eagles hosted the Carrier Mills Wildcats on Wednesday in a non-conference battle. The Wildcats carried a 1-0 lead in to the bottom of the 5th inning before the Eagle bats finally got going. Ryan Wright doubled with one out. He scored after a Bradley West sacrifice bunt and Bryce Davis RBI single. Davis stole second and scored on Zach Schell’s RBI double down the left field line. Schell scored later on a wild pitch and the Eagles took a 3-1 lead after five innings. The Wildcats came back with three runs of their own in the top of the 6th inning courtesy of three hits, a walk, and a hit batsmen. The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the 7th inning. Jakob Breeden led off with a walk and stole second base. He scored on Christian Pearl’s RBI double. The Eagles went on to load the bases but couldn’t push across the winning run. Neither team threatened in the 8th inning, and the Eagles loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the 9th inning and failed to produce. Carrier Mills chased across a run in the top of the 10th inning on a pair of walks and fielding error. The Eagles went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame and fell 5-4 to the Wildcats. Christian Pearl worked the first 8 innings on the mound, he allowed four runs on six hits, he struck out thirteen batters and only walked one in the effort. Ryan Wright picked up the loss in relief firing two innings, allowing one unearned runs on no hits, and a pair of walks.
April 13, 2017 at Trico
The Eagles traveled to Trico on Thursday to complete the weekly conference doubleheader with the Pioneers. This game was much like the first with the Eagle bats struggling and one big Trico inning creating the difference in the game. With the Eagles trailing 1-0 in the 5th inning Trico tallied five runs off of Eagle starting pitcher, Brennan Jacobsen to push the Trico lead to 6-0. The Pioneers added two more runs in the 6th to provide the final 8-0 margin. Ryan Wright went 2-3 to lead the Eagle four hit attack. The Eagles dropped their conference record to 2-2 and overall record to 5-7 after a tough week at the plate. They travel to Zeigler on Tuesday, at Cobden on Wednesday, before hosting Zeigler on Thursday. Next week’s schedule has a trip to Elverado on Monday, before home games with Goreville & Pope County on Tuesday and Wednesday.
