Shelby “Gene” Fairless, age 72, a resident of Vienna, passed away Saturday morning, February 4, 2017, at 5 AM at his home.
Gene was born January 2, 1945 in Johnson County Illinois. He was the son of Shelby Remember Fairless and Mabel (Harner) Fairless.
Gene is survived by: his children – Robert Preston (his wife, Amber) Fairless of Ullin, Matthew Gene Fairless of Ozark, Shelby Erin-Kate Fairless of Vienna, and William Shelby Fairless of Vienna; 4 grandchildren – Kennedy, Emery, Ethan, and Jacob; a sister – Evelyn (her husband, Richard) Ross of Cypress; 2 brothers – Billy Joe (his wife, Elizabeth) Fairless of New Burnside and Bobby (his wife, Katie) Fairless of South Jordan, Utah; an aunt – Earline Penrod Gore of Vienna; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby R. Fairless and Mabel Fairless Brooks; and a sister – Peggy Needles.
Gene had been employed for many years by Hodges Furniture Store in Vienna as a deliveryman and installer. He had also worked as a laborer and farmer. Gene was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gene was of the Christian faith.
A graveside service honoring the life of Gene Fairless will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, February 7, 2017, at 1 PM at the Graves-Mt. Olive Cemetery north of Vienna. 5700 Dutchman Lake Road, Tunnel Hill, Illinois.
There will be no public visitation. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 12:45 PM.
