Pearl I. (Johnson) Laing, 88, of Grand Chain Illinois, formerly of Morris, Illinois, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 4:40 a.m. at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Paducah, Kentucky.
Pearl was born in Morris, Illinois, August 15, 1928 to Vernon and Ethel (Claypool) Johnson. She grew up in Morris and attended Morris Public Schools. She married William H. Laing on November 22, 1947. Pearl loved the Chicago Cubs, Nascar Racing and fishing.
Pearl is survived by three daughters, Judy (Nick) Ulrich, Bonnie Laing and Peggy Laing all of Grand Chain; one son, Kevin (Nina) Laing of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, plus numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Julia Thompson of Grand Chain and Charlotte Berkland of Papillion, Nebraska.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Laing; her son, William Laing Jr. ;two sisters, Ruth Greve and Mabel Fight; two brothers, Donald Johnson and Melvin Johnson.
Graveside memorial services honoring Pearl (Johnson) Laing will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Mound City National Cemetery, those attending are asked to gather at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Project Hope Animal Shelter in Metropolis or to St. Jude’s.
