Jim L. Cowsert, age 64 years, a resident of Goreville and a former resident of Cobden and Ware, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2017, at 12:50 PM at his home.
Jim was born February 12, 1952 in Bixby, Oklahoma. He was the son of Charles L. Cowsert, Sr. and Pearl (Pitcher) Cowsert.
In 1980, Jim was united in marriage to Betty (Johnson) at the Shiloh Baptist Church at Cobden. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by: his children: Liberty Spurlock, Michelle (Dennis) Wildhagen, and Michael (Laura) Wallace; grandchildren – Kalyssa Spurlock, Haley Helton, Dallas (Phil Strotman) Helton, Jarrett (Megan) Helton, Caitlyn Wallace, Seth Wallace, and Aiden Wallace; and a great granddaughter – Gracynn S. Helton.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by an infant daughter – Penny C. Cowsert; a brother and 2 sisters.
Jim was a volunteer E.M.T., firefighter, and police officer for the city of Cobden. He was employed by the Western Auto as well as the I.K.T. stores in Anna for 20 years. Jim also served as the maintenance supervisor for the Carbondale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for 4 years prior to working as a shuttle bus driver for Saluki Express in Carbondale until his illness.
Jim loved riding motorcycles, spending time with his wife and family as well as his dogs. Jim was of the Baptist faith.
Jim is remembered fondly as a phenomenal husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
